Growing in Gratitude

Growing in Gratitude

In this sermon Pastor David examine several passages of Scripture that relate to thankfulness and gratitude.

Psalm 106:1 Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!

Why should we give thanks? Although our culture is confused on this issue, Christians have a crystal clear answer. We are thankful to God for every blessing. Indeed every good gift comes down from God. Our thankfulness is a statement of our dependence on God. We are thankful for all He has done, all He has provided, all He graciously gives.

We’re thankful God made us.
We’re thankful He has given us life.
We’re thankful He sustains us and provides for us.
We’re thankful He redeems and saves us.
We’re thankful the work of Christ enables us to be with Him forever.

Psalm 92:1 It is good to give thanks to the LORD!

The ultimate reason for thankfulness and gratitude is that God is good. He is the God of light, not darkness, the God of righteousness not wickedness. For those who are in Christ, He is the God of grace, mercy and love. His covenant faithfulness never ends. He is our hope.

The essence of human sinfulness is a refusal to give thanks to God and to honor Him as God, (Rom 1:21) but the Gospel of Jesus Christ transforms us into those who give thanks to God and bless His name! Jesus took our penalty on the cross so that instead of the curse we deserve, God has graciously given us blessing. Now we give thanks with grateful hearts. May we be those who give thanks to God and honor Him as God. May we count our blessings and remember the source from which they all flow.
