Sojourning – Genesis 47

Sojourning – Genesis 47

The author of Psalm 119 was right when he said, “I am a sojourner on the earth;” I think that has been forgotten for quite some time. We have raised up a couple generations on the philosophy of John Lennon… a people “Livin’ for today.” No wonder so many people are so frustrated and consumed with numbing themselves through possessions and pleasure. As we look at the end of the life of Jacob, we see that while his life was 147 years in length, he regarded his life to be short and full of toil and trouble. In contrast, the people of God are to realize that our “Citizenship is in Heaven” and when our hope is set there, we stop hoarding things here. The goal is not to live for today, but for God with eternity in mind.
