What is the Church For? Matthew 28:18-20
What is our purpose? What is our mission? What is the aim of the church?
It seems that almost every business or organization has a mission statement or a purpose statement. Likewise we as the church have both a clear mission and a clear purpose, but both have been given to us by God Himself in sacred Scripture. The church has been given a horizontal Mission (making disciples of all nations) for a vertical purpose (bringing glory to God).
In this sermon Pastor David explains that we as a church exist to Bring Glory to God by Making Disciples of Christ.
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:18-20)
Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. 9 Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To Him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. (1 Peter 4:8-11)
